Bot in a Box Events - Summer 2019
The team wanted to get more kids excited about STEM and FIRST in the off season. We thought the FLLJr age group would be the best to work with. We collaborated with our town Youth Services to help advertise the 3 complementary events. We, as a team, purchased 3 Lego WeDo kits. We limited the number of kids to 12 for each 2 hour event. Rather than simulate an FLLJr challenge, we had 4 kids and 2 team members per WeDo kit. We let them choose which bot to build and why. They worked together to choose, build and program. We also had basic Legos so they could create an environment for the bot to maneuver in. All 3 events were filled within 24 hours.
Robot Block Party - October 20th, 2019
We showcased FIRST Tech Challenge in Boston during HubWeek. This event is a large festival held to showcase different aspects of STEAM. We participated in the Robotics Hall, where we showcased our robot along with other FTC and FRC teams from the area. The main goal of this outreach event was to spread the ideas of FIRST and Gracious Professionalism to ALL ages, no matter how young. Also at this event was Steve Cremar, the FIRST Regional Director of New England. We were set up next to him and made a good team in introducing people to FIRST and it’s values.
Girl Scout Outreach Events - Winter 2019
We seem to have created a great buzz about town in the FLLJr age group. Which is great, since our school system has little or no STEM. We were approached by a few local Girl Scout groups to come to their meetings. We helped the girls earn their Robot Badge and taught them about STEM using the Lego WeDo.
