ABOUT USWe are the NORTH READING HI-TECH HORNETS FTC #13950. We are students from North Reading, Massachusetts. Our co-ed team consists of four middle-schoolers and six high-schoolers. We have two adult mentors - one new to mentoring and the other has worked with FRC in the past. 2017-2018 was our "Rookie Team" year. We began in early October 2017. We have an aggressive meeting schedule of three meetings per week. Team groups consist of design, build and programming. The team is distributed fairly even between groups. All team members enter information into an Engineering Notebook for every meeting, including specific group accomplishments and roadblocks, ideas for future designing/building, and pictures/videos from meetings.
We work on team fundraising and outreach throughout the year. |
TEAM MEMBERS
TREVOR RABIDEAU- I’m Trevor Rabideau, I am a sophomore this year. I help build the robot and sometimes I design new things on the robot. I like building things and making new things. I joined the team because my friend told me about it and it sounded very interesting to me.
CHRISSY TENNEY- This year I’m a freshman at the North Reading Middle School. I am the youngest member on the team. I joined FIRST because I love robotics and am interested in the building aspect of the robot.
SHIVANI SRIKANTH- I’m Shivi. I’m a sophomore at North Reading High School. I help lead the build team and design team. I love coming up with new designs, and then implementing and testing them. In addition, Cooper and I lead the fundraising/outreach ventures. I have experience in both Python and CAD, so I joined the team to build more depth in these fields. I became a member of FIRST because I wanted to learn more about product design and applying designs to actual prototypes. I also want to go into mechanical engineering, and this team is really helping me gain experience and build skills in that field. This year, I am learning the details of Java Programming and how to apply it to our robot. Outside of Robotics, I play on a Junior Olympic softball team, and I sing in a rock band. I also enjoy salt and vinegar almonds.

COOPER MANN- Hi! I am a junior at North Reading High School and team captain. Outside of school, my favorite things to do are baseball, band, and spending time with friends and family. I joined FIRST because I went to go see a competition two years ago and thought, “That could be me doing this someday.” I want to be a role model and create new ideas for others to succeed.
JOEL KEATON- I am a junior at North Reading High School this year. Outside of school, I enjoy reading and playing video games. I have had experience with LEGO Mindstorms in the past through an after-school robotics club in eighth grade, which gave me a chance to brainstorm ideas to build, program, and troubleshoot problems that came up. I also have done personal programming in many different languages, such as Python and Scratch (a blocks programming language), and this year I have been learning HTML and CSS to make and style websites. I joined FIRST to experience the different stages of building, designing, and especially programming a functional robot that can compete against other teams.
MENTORS
MIKE MANN- As a mentor and father of two boys in High School and Middle School, I have a great interest in FIRST Robotics and STEM. My background in Mechanical Engineering and building space based telescopes for the government and commercial clients gives me the ability to share my design and build experiences with the team. There have been many challenging design requirements that my company team and I have faced and I can share the engineering design process that we use to complete the mission. Each year the FIRST challenge changes and by giving the team sound design fundamentals will help them to succeed. I look forward to the FIRST Relic Recovery and new challenges in the future.
ALEX BRUNELLE- Alex is one of our mentors and a great help to the team. He is a drafter at L-3 and an alum from FRC Team 166, Chop Shop. Previously he helped to mentor Team 166 before joining us. He is also the lead mentor for FRC Team 5962, Persevere. His favorite color is silver and his favorite food is spaghetti or anything Italian.
